Barbecue Chicken Recipes

Date: August 9, 2018

One of the best things about summertime is breaking out the barbecue and grilling up some chicken for friends and family to enjoy. At the British Columbia Chicken Marketing Board, we love sharing our favourite barbecue chicken recipes with our consumers. If you are looking for some great chicken recipes to try out this month, here are a few of our favourite chicken recipes.

Beer Can Barbecue Chicken

Adapted from Beer Can-Barbecue Chicken by Kraft.

For this barbecue chicken recipe, you will need:

  • 1 tsp of garlic powder
  • 1 tsp of onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp of paprika
  • 1/2 tsp of black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp of dried thyme leaves
  • 1 whole chicken
  • 1 can (355 mL) of beer
  • 1/2 cup of BBQ sauce

Heat the barbecue to 375 degrees for indirect grilling by only lighting one side of the grill. While the grill is heating up, mix the garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, black pepper, and dried thyme leaves together and rub them onto the chicken. Next, open the beer can and discard half of the beer. Placing the half full can on a work surface, lower the chicken over the can, inserting the can into the tail end. Stand the chicken on the unlit side of the barbecue and grill the chicken (covered) for 1 hour. Brush the chicken with a 1/4 cup of BBQ sauce and grill the chicken for another 15 minutes (uncovered) or until the chicken is done, brushing the chicken frequently with the remaining sauce. Let the chicken rest for 10 minutes before removing the beer can and carving.

Barbecue Chicken, Bacon, and Peach Kabobs

Adapted from Barbecue Chicken and Peach Kabobs with Bacon by Kraft.

For this barbecue chicken recipe, you will need:

  • 1/4 cup of BBQ sauce
  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts cut into 16 pieces
  • 2 peaches peeled and cut into 8 pieces each
  • 8 slices of bacon cut crosswise in half

While the barbecue is heating to medium-high heat, reserve 2 tbsp of BBQ sauce. Next, wrap each chicken piece with 1 piece of bacon and thread the chicken, alternating with peach slices, onto 4 skewers. Brush the chicken skewers with BBQ sauce. Grill the skewers for 12-14 minutes or until the chicken is done, brushing the skewers with the reserved BBQ sauce in the last 2 minutes.
