About the BC Chicken Growers' Association

The BCCGA was founded in 1957 as a non-profit organization to unite commercial broiler growers in BC and work towards a more stable industry. The Association acts as a liaison between the chicken growers, other branches of the chicken industry, and the government.

The BCCGA is a separate organization from but acts in close collaboration with the BCCMB.

There are seven directors on the Association’s Board who are elected from and by chicken grower members. Because chicken is grown all over BC, it is important that each region is represented:

  • 1 director representing the Interior,
  • 1 director representing Vancouver Island,
  • 4 directors representing the Lower Mainland, and
  • 1 director representing specialty production.

Poultry In Motion™

Poultry in Motion™ began in 2007 when a dedicated group of poultry farmers came together with vision: to create a mobile, learning experience that could travel to public events and schools.

With farms generally off limits to visitors due to biosecurity protocols, the BC Chicken Growers’ Association, in partnership with the BC Broiler Hatching Egg Producers’ Association, developed the Poultry in Motion program.

There are now three mobile “mini barn” trailers that travel the province, in an effort to increase public awareness and educate consumers. These fully equipped mini barns — featuring videos, trivia, recipe books, live birds, and chicken farmers — shows up at fairs, schools, and agriculture events.

Poultry in Motion also supports in-school presentations. An experienced chicken grower facilitates an interactive learning experience for students of any age to know more about raising chickens, our local food chain, and more. They even cook a nutritious chicken dish together.
