While HPAI remains in BC, several critical policies apply to those directly impacted by HPAI infection. This include placement of chicks on your farm.
Placing chicks correctly on your farm is of the upmost importance, for their safety and for your business—especially for quota holders. The BCCMB appreciates everyone’s continued efforts to keep chick placements on track while navigating HPAI this season in BC.
If restrictions due to infection prevent chicks from being placed at their intended farm, all parties are required to work with hatcheries to secure an alternative location. Growers remain responsible for arranging barns or quota leases—in simultaneous coordination with their hatchery.
This affects more than just bird placement protocols. Affected policies include: leasing kgs, leasing barn space, disaster flocks, market development, and off-schedule bird movement.

If your placement plans change, please communicate those changes as early as you can. If you have an urgent concern or update, or need to talk through a scenario, please contact: Karlie Erickson, Quota & Production Coordinator at karlieerickson@bcchicken.ca or mobile 778-600-0259.
The BCCMB will continue to be as flexible as possible to support the industry. Thank you for your cooperation in these measures; we appreciate your attention to details in keeping your birds and the chicken-growing community safe.
