Becoming a Licensed Broiler Chicken Grower

Are you interested in becoming a BC broiler chicken grower?

Chicken farming, like other farming businesses in BC, requires commitment, research, hard work and a financial investment.

1. Buying an existing farm

  • Complete Farm Sale: This occurs when a licenced grower decides to retire from chicken farming and sell their land, buildings, and equipment used for raising chickens.

  • Offer and Approval: A buyer makes an offer to purchase the farm. The seller must then apply to the BCCMB (British Columbia Chicken Marketing Board) to approve the transfer of the quota registration.

  • Finding a Farm: If you are interested in buying an existing broiler farm, contact a farm real estate agent.

2. Obtain quota Only and Farm on a Different Site

  • Obtain Quota: You can obtain quota from an existing farmer.
  • Approval Process: Similar to a complete farm sale, the seller must apply to the BCCMB (British Columbia Chicken Marketing Board) to approve the transfer of the quota.
  • Site Inspection and Approval: The site where you plan to raise your chickens must be inspected and approved by the BCCMB.

3. New Entrant Grower Program

BCCMB is not currently accepting any new applications or conducting any draws for New Entrant Growers in any region until further notice.

For further details on the New Entrant Grower Program, we encourage you to visit our Public Consultation section of our website.
