The Province of BC announced today a change to the composition of the BC Chicken Marketing Board, which impacts the governance of BC’s chicken industry.
Effective September 1, 2026, the Board shall consist of:
- a Chair appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council for BC
- three registered grower members elected by registered growers
- an additional member appointed by the Board
The current Board Chair, Kevin Klippenstein, shares more details in the memo linked below.
Official scheme updates, Board member election information and timelines, and other details will come out as this change comes into place. All registered chicken growers are encouraged to consider if they would like to run for an elected position.
For many years, the Board has been made up of a government-appointed chair, two government-appointed members, and two elected grower members. This fall there will be two appointed members — the Chair appointed by the government through an Order In Council by the province, and a member appointed by the Board — and three elected grower members.
The Board looks forward to added grower leadership in its support of BC’s chicken growing community.
