Growers Elect New Board Member

On August 31, 2026, registered BC chicken growers elected Don Hanson to office as the BC Chicken Marketing Board’s newest Board Director.

Don’s role on the Board commences September 1, 2026, until March 21, 2030 (around the time of the AGM).

The BC Council of Marketing Boards (BC COMB) hosted the election as the Independent Election Officer. The election was announced to registered BC chicken growers on July 17, 2026, including a call for nominations. Candidates were announced on August 6 and voting was open to registered growers or their appointees from August 17 to 31. BC COMB delivered the results.

The Board is grateful to each of the three candidates who put their name forward for consideration, sharing their bio and speaking to relevant topics during the election period.

The Board is especially thankful for positive participation from the chicken growing community. 205 registered chicken growers voted in this election, with a contingent of those joining online for a live forum with all the candidates featuring curated discussion topics and a live, moderated question-and-answer period.

The recent election was triggered by an update to the Board’s composition and structure, following an announcement from the Province of BC. Elections typically happen around the time of our AGM in the spring, but the addition of a grower-elected member necessitated sooner action.

To understand more about Board elections or appointments — how to nominate, who can vote, etc — our updated Election Rules and Procedures are posted at bcchicken.ca/governance.

The Board is due for another member election in Spring of 2027.
