Board launches election for new member

Chicken growers will have the chance to nominate and elect (or acclaim) another one-of-their-own to the BC Chicken Marketing Board.

This follows an update to the Board’s composition, as per orders by the Province of BC. As of September 1, 2026, there is now to be three — instead of two — elected grower members. An appointed role, which has been vacant since last December, was updated into an elected role.

The election of a new grower member was officially launched today through the BC Council of Marketing Boards (BC COMB), who specializes in these matters and stands as the neutral Independent Election Officer.

Nominations are open now until August 5, and if there is more than one nominee, voting will open on August 17 until August 31, after which BC COMB will announce the results. The Board expects to have its newest member by early September 2026.

Only registered chicken growers may nominate other registered chicken growers to the position, as per the British Columbia Chicken Marketing Scheme and the Board’s Election Rules and Procedures, as approved by the BC Farm Industry Review Board (BC FIRB). As well, only registered chicken growers or their registered appointees may vote, as per the same authorities. Following nominations, BC COMB will inform growers about candidates and the voting process, will conduct the election or acclamation, and will formally announce the successful candidate.
